Stepping Into More: When Subtly Becomes Suddenly
The title for this blog was inspired by a sermon I enjoyed by Sarah Jakes Roberts titled: Subtle Until Suddenly. Sundays are my sabbath day, dedicated to cleansing the energy and clutter in my home and filling it with worship, prayer, and the wonderful word of God. It is my favorite way to return to myself, to reconnect with my home, and spend time with God.
In this sermon, Sarah speaks on the subtle, quiet, and private moments we spend with God in preparation for our calling, is what builds the momentum for what seems to happen suddenly to outside people. I enjoyed this teaching because it reassured me that what I do, when no one is watching, is what matters and it can not be faked.
I am comforted by this word. I must remember, the commitment to my private and subtle moments will soon bring me to the sudden moment of stepping into my anointing.
It brings to my mind a few verses I want to share:
Proverbs 3:35
The wise inherit honor, but fools are put to shame.
Proverbs 4:25-27
Look straight ahead and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet: stay on the safe path. Don’t get to sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil.
I interrupt this scripture as having a vision for your life and walking only the path that leads you to that. better yet, co-creating with God and walking the path he has laid out.
Proverbs 20:4
Those too lazy to plow in the right season will have no food at the harvest.
Similar to the
Proverbs 24:27
Do your planning and prepare your fields before building your house.
Most, if not all, of my studies with personal development and success all point to the same direction in bible; Preparation is important before the presentation. The book atomic habits speaks on building micro habits and the consistency of these habits is what brings you to the destination of your goal. I like to look at it as the subtle habits are like tiny cash deposits into your bank account of success.
Saying Yes To My Expansion
Outside of building my businesses Thriving Artist Studio and Girl Meets Film, for work, I am a full time stretch therapist, or “flexologist.” Recently, I was offered the position to become the lead flexologist and serve as the assistant manager of the studio. At first, I was intimidated by the idea of the new expectations. I was quite comfortable with my then, current position and didn’t care to get promoted.
Then after much prayer, and sitting with the offer, I had the revelation of if I want to receive more, with my personal businesses and as a successful thriving woman, then it is REQUIRED of me to BECOME more FIRST before anything else. I have to expand myself into embodying and operating in leadership, since that is exactly what I plan to be with Thriving Artist Studio and Girl Meets Film.
Sarah Jakes Roberts also said this in one of her sermons “new environments allows God to show you what is in you.” I would also like to add the revelation that, your environments can also be limiting to your potential. Had I did stay in what was comfortable, then I would not be able to expand myself to my fullest potential as a leader.
One of my favorite lectures by motivational speaker Jim Rohn talks about the laws of success and personal development. His best advice was the saying “in order for change to happen, you must first change yourself.” I learned from him also, that when considering a new position, you must not look at just the monetary gain but more importantly you must ask yourself who will you become.
Reflections for the Reader:
What are some subtle habits you are doing in private that will prepare you for your “sudden” moment?
Describe what your private life looks like when no one is watching, does it match the life you wish to build for yourself?
When was the last time you “stepped into more” with your life?
What does the bible scriptures say to you? How could you place the wisdom from these scriptures in your life?
What are some shifts you can make with your private life so it can reflect the life in which you are striving for?
